Fashion and Design


The Fashion Design and Marketing (FDM) programme offers high quality and dynamic training focusing on fashion design, apparel production, quality control and technical skills to enhance local and international trade in textile products. It is designed to assist individuals to become self reliant by training them for self-employment and diverse opportunities in the textile industry. Our dynamic and proactive approach in reviewing our programmes puts us at the forefront in meeting market demand.

The department has held successful fashion shows over the years. Additionally, the fashion Design students have participated and won various accolades in fashion events. In 2016, for instance, our students won the Kenya Fashion Awards and Baringo rising Stars competition. The FDM department is committed to being the Department of choice, providing you with world class training and research opportunities that are market driven and able to meet the challenges of today's community and economy

FASHION DESIGN AND MARKETING ACADEMIC STAFFS
On enrolling in our department you will be taught by a qualified and committed team of 13 staff members. These lecturers comprise 1 Professor, 9 PhD holders, and 3 Masters holders on staff development in Kenyatta University and abroad. The department aims to have all the staff attaining doctoral status in the next few years. The staff members have degrees in the following areas of specialisation:

DEPARTMENT OF FASHION DESIGN AND MARKETING
The department of Fashion Design and Marketing offers high quality and dynamic training focusing on fashion design, apparel production, quality control and technical skills to enhance local and international trade in textile products. 1). BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (FASHION DESIGN AND MARKETING)    msword        pdf
Entry requirements:
Candidates must satisfy the minimum entry requirement of Kenyatta University. In addition, candidates must have done at least one of the following subjects at KCSE and passed with minimum of grade C+: Art and Design/Home Science and any one Science subject OR C plain with a Diploma in Fashion Design or Clothing Technology from recognized institutions.
2). MASTER OF SCIENCE (FASHION DESIGN AND MARKETING)        msword         pdf
Entry requirements:
Eligibility for registration for M.Sc. degree in Fashion Design and Marketing will include the following:
A holder of First class or Upper second class Bachelor of Science in Textile Science and Design or B.Sc. in Textiles, Clothing or Fine Art which has bias in textiles or its equivalent from a recognized university. A holder of First class or Upper second class Bachelor of Education (Home Economics or Home Science). A holder of B.Sc. in Textiles, Clothing or Fine Art, which has bias in Textiles, from recognized university. A holder of Lower second class B.Sc. in textile science and design or textiles, Clothing or Fine Art which has a bias in textiles or BED (Home Economics or Home Science) or its equivalent from a recognized university with at least 2 years of related work experience after graduation.
Career prospects:
Fashion Design and Marketing graduates will find employment in fashion design, garment manufacturing, interior design, textile research, quality inspection, textile marketing and NGO’s. They can establish their own business and create employment opportunities for others.
3). PHD IN FASHION DESIGN AND MARKETING
Masters Degree in relevant area of study from Kenyatta University or any other recognized institution
